[Guide] How to Install TWRP Recovery on Samsung Epic 4G (Sprint: SPH-D700 / victory)​

Prerequisites & Critical Warnings​

• Legacy Partition Structure (BML vs. MTD): Stock Samsung Gingerbread firmware runs on the legacy BML (Samsung RFS filesystem) partition layout. Modern custom ROMs (CyanogenMod/LineageOS) and TWRP builds operate on open-source MTD (Yaffs2/Ext4). Flashing an MTD-based TWRP will automatically repartition your device and format internal partitions.
• No Knox Counter: The Epic 4G predates Samsung Knox and locked bootloader restrictions; there is no eFuse (0x0 / 0x1) to trip and no OEM Unlock toggle in settings.
• Data Loss: Converting from stock RFS to MTD/TWRP formats internal data partitions completely. Back up all vital files to an external MicroSD card before proceeding.

Step-by-Step Installation Instructions (Nasıl Yüklenir?)​

Step 1: Prepare the Device & Enable USB Debugging​

1. On stock Android 2.2 / 2.3.6, open the app drawer and go to Settings > Applications > Development.
2. Check the box for USB Debugging.
3. Insert an external MicroSD card containing any ROM or root ZIPs you intend to flash once TWRP is running.

Step 2: Boot into Samsung Download Mode​

1. Power off the phone completely.
2. Slide open the physical QWERTY keyboard.
3. Press and hold the '1' key on the hardware keyboard + Power button simultaneously until the yellow shovel-wielding Andy digging icon appears on the screen with the text "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!!".(Alternative without keyboard: Press and hold Volume Down + Power while plugging in the USB cable).

Step 3: Flash TWRP Kernel via Odin​

1. Launch Odin3 v1.85 (or v3.07) as Administrator on your PC.
2. Connect your Epic 4G to the PC using the Micro-USB cable. The ID:COM box will highlight in yellow (or blue in v3.07) confirming port detection.
3. If flashing a standalone kernel/recovery tar:
   
   • Click PDA and load twrp-kernel-sph-d700.tar.
4. If performing a full MTD conversion with PIT:
   
   • Click PIT and select victory.pit.
   • Click PDA and select the recovery tar.
   • Verify that Re-Partition is only checked if explicitly required by your specific PIT package.
5. In Odin options:
   
   • Ensure Auto Reboot is checked.
   • Ensure F. Reset Time is checked.
6. Click Start and allow Odin to flash the kernel partition. The device will automatically reboot upon completion.

Step 4: Boot into TWRP Recovery​

1. When the phone reboots, allow the MTD conversion script to run (if applicable, robotic audio feedback will report partition conversion).
2. To manually access TWRP at any time:
   
   • Turn off the phone completely.
   • Press and hold Volume Down + Camera + Power buttons simultaneously.
   • Release when the Samsung logo appears.
3. Inside TWRP:
   
   • Swipe to allow system modifications.
   • Navigate to Wipe > Factory Reset or format cache/dalvik.
   • Flash your desired custom package or Superuser/Magisk zip via Install.
4. Select Reboot > System.
